Songs Alive Showcase
The Cork Lounge, 5043 Van Nuys Blvd., Sherman Oaks, California
Partners 'n Crime will be sharing the stage with some of the most creative singer/songwriters in The Valley, hosted by Jimi Yamagishi, who has quite a track record himself and is all about supporting Indie Music. More details to follow.
Partners is an acoustic duo, playing songs from the heart, about life's ups and downs, with a been-there-done-that and come back for more attitude.
Juntos Siempre is the Spanish version of Side By Side, a tale of finding love when least expected, and the exhilaration that follows.
LA-based, singer/songwriters, Tapia Corel and Jim Rhodes have been performing together as Partners 'n Crime since 2009. They are real 'partners' in life, and recently decided to make the transition of identifying their duo as "Partners" -- with no crime involved -- just guilty pleasures! Their music reflects the experience, trials and tribulations of a life well lived, albeit sprinkled with a few mistakes, which sometimes made for interesting turns and twists of fate -- and in some cases, loads of fun.
Their special vocal blend is reminiscent of those who share the same DNA (think Everly Bro's and The Judds). as well as a chemistry that radiates throughout their work and performance. When they decided to create a Spanish version of their song, Side By Side, they enlisted the aid of singer/songwriter Erasmo (Sal) Salgado, who also contributed the killer harmonies. Each time a new layer was added to the track, it was as if the song demanded more. Hence, after listening to Sal's contributions, adding Mariachi violins was a no brainer. Fortunately orchestrator and arranger Milton Nelson was available, and added not only lush violins, but an entire string section with complimentary woodwinds. All of these changes have turned a sweet love long into an infectious, commanding and deeply moving tribute to eternal love.
Juntos Siempre will be included and featured in Partners' next CD, which will be released in October 2016, on CD Baby and its partners (Amazon MP3, AppleITunes etc.)
This is a free-flowing acoustic version of the original recording, featuring Tapia Corel and Jim Rhodes on vocals and acoustic guitars.
Partners 'n Crime is an acoustic duo, composed of Tapia Corel and Jim Rhodes on vocals and acoustic guitars. Their uncanny vocal blend is both compelling and haunting at the same, perfect for this remake of the iconic, rock-ballad of the 60's, originally recorded and performed by the Moody Blues.
Sangron is a light-hearted Tex-Mex Spanglish song, about a guy who won't get a job, can't clean the house and won't cut the yard, but is fine having a partner who does. Other than that, he's a lot of fun.
Sangron was inspired by real life events, that are familiar to many women: the husband/boyfriend/partner who is big on talking, but not into doing. The Tex-Mex rhythm creates a light-hearted vibe, supported with authentic instruments (accordion, guiro and tres), tight Latin harmonies and full-throated and heartfelt "gritas." Combined with the catchy melody and humorous Spanglish lyrics, Sangron is the perfect party song for any fiesta. (Think Texas Tornadoes from a female point of view).
She's The One is an uptempo rocker, with an uplifting melody, with tight harmonies, driving guitar and make-you-want-to-dance vibe.
Partners, Tapia Corel and Jim Rhodes, have been writing, recording and performing together since 2009. Their music "from and for the heart" is based on real life experiences, so much so, "She's The One" was written as a Valentine gift after their first year together
Their EP "Animated." debuted on Americana Radio in the Top Twenty of the Roots Music Report , in both Alt Folk and Folk categories, and finished #118 in the 2015 Top 200 Folk Albums. "I'm Thankful for the Love" was the #1 Alt Folk Single for three weeks, and finished 2015 #68 in the Top 200 Folk Singles. Enough!, a driving rocker a la "Jagged Pill" ended 2015 at #78 in the same list.
Tapia and Jim's music reflects a blend of folk-rock, jazz and Latin influences, as well as a joyful approach to life's experiences with a "been there/done that and came back for more" attitude. Their 2015 EP "Animated," tells the story of grown-ups who have made mistakes, been redeemed, and learned many lessons the hard way -- sometimes digging in heels all the way down the slopes of change, where, when they land, discover deep rivers of love and satisfaction.
