Story

Trumpon was inspired by the 2016 Presidential election campaign, where tens of thousands of people were subjected to insults and subjugation from the GOP candidate Donald Trump.

The song was originally written as "Sangron," about a low-life of a guy who always put himself first, belittled anyone who didn't let him have his way, and used anyone around him, until they were no longer of any use to him. One day, while waiting for a root canal to be performed, I was thinking about Donald and that song said  lot about him. With a few lyric changes,  Sangron could be all about him.

That afternoon, I made the changes and took them to Jim. We laughed about it, and agreed it was timely, and deserved to be recorded. We called our engineer who said he was available the next night, recorded a new lead and background vocal. For good measure, we added social commentary from Khizr Khan and former Mexico President Vicente Fox.

We hope not only that you enjoy it, but that you feel, like us, this needed to be said.

Lyrics

Nos dice que he loves us, y there’s no one above us

Y va comprarnos un mansion in the sky

He says nos quierre  mucho, and he’s our baby Chucho

Y nunca va take us for a ride.

But when I come home from work each day, I hear him shouting “Dejame,”

When he’s yelling on the TV all the time

Si digamos “Oye. ¿Qué vas hahacer?” He shows us that he doesn’t care

But pretty soon things will be just fine (He’s el)

Trumpón, Cabrón, Huebón,

Quierre qué encantarle cada día

Trumpón,  Sangrón, Chingón

No sabe how to tell the truth today

Un día he’s bighearted, and tells us how he started

To build a business that will be so great

Y habla del futuro, of fancy cakes and churros

How everyday we’ll dine on wine and steak

But tonight we’re eating beans and rice, while he’s out playing, throwing dice

And acting like a big shot with his friends

Si digo, “Oye. ¿Qué es és?” It sounds as if it’s to impress

His supporters, they’re cabrones just like him (He’s el)

Trumpón, Cabrón, Huebón,

Le gusta que we cook and clean the kitchens

Trumpόn, Sangrón, Chingón,

No sabe how to save himself today

When I hear his fanfarronadas, and I know that he’s got nada

I wonder how this guy could be so lame

And I am learning better, like cheese that you call cheddar

No matter how you slice it, he’s the same

So when I vote on November 8th, I’m going to tell him andale

Chinga tú dinero, you ain’t got none

Si nos dice, “Oye. ¿Qué paso?” We’ll tell him that it’s time to go

And go back to the cave from where he came  (Adiós)

Trumpón, Cabrón, Huebón,

Quierremos que te vayas,   have a good day

Sangrón, Cabrón, Huebón,

Face it, it’s your  time to andale!

Anda y tambien, just corrale

Come on,  apurate

How many ways can I say “go away???

Story

Juntos Siempre is the Spanish version of our song, Side By Side. Since writing and recording together, our focus has been to do justice to the song. Little did we know that in some cases, like this one, the song would demand it.

The original plan was to convert the song into a Spanglish tune, but when Erasmo (Sal) Salgado provided a full Spanish text, and we recorded it, we dropped that idea, and went full on Spanish. Sal graciously accepted the challenge of adding mariachi style harmonies, which pushed him to the limits of his voice Fortunately, he did it beautifully, and once again, the bar was raised.

As fate would have it, our dear friend and composer Milton Nelson, who is well  known in the LA area as an orchestrator and arranger, was available, between higher paying gigs. Time was on our side, and we believe by being able to take his time, he came up with tidbits we never expected, like a cello, oboe, woodwinds and harp.

All of the above contributed to a lush, passionate tribute to eternal love -- the kind we dream of, and sometimes get when least expected. Of course none of this would have come together without the expertise of sound engineer Mark Ryan, of Skylark Studio in Sherman Oaks, California.

We hope you enjoy it!

Here's an acoustic version of the Moody Blues 1967 recording we started doing as a lark. Once we heard how well our voices complimented the song and vice versa, we included it in all our shows. We're sure you'll remember the song--just not how high you were!
NOTES
Partners 'n Crime is an acoustic duo, composed of Tapia Corel and Jim Rhodes on vocals and acoustic guitars. Their uncanny vocal blend is both compelling and haunting at the same, perfect for this remake of the iconic, rock-ballad of the 60's, originally recorded and performed by the Moody Blues.

Sangron is a light-hearted Tex-Mex song, that appeals to both Hispanic-American and American communities, especially in the Southwest. Its catchy hook is infectious and easy for all to understand, regardless of their first language.
NOTES
Sangron was inspired by real life events, that are familiar to many women: the husband/boyfriend/partner who is talks the walk and expects her to do all the work. The Tex-Mex rhythm creates a light-hearted vibe, supported with authentic instruments (accordion, guiro and tres), tight Latin harmonies and full-throated and heartfelt "gritos." Combined with the catchy melody and humorous Spanglish lyrics, Sangron is the perfect party song for any fiesta. (Think Texas Tornadoes from …

Story

After the positive response we have been receiving for Sangron in live shows, we decided to go back the studio and create a new more lively and authentic arrangement (than our previous version). We added accordion (thanks to the talents of Juan Miguel), a Tres (thanks to the generosity of Margarita de la Vega), a stronger chorus (Juan Miguel, Margarita, Martin, Tapia and Jim), percussion (Martin Sosa), drums (Mark Ryan) and a bunch of "gritos" to push the party-feel, and inspire a few rounds of " cerveza y Margaritas." In 4:46, we did it!

Rebirthing Sangron was so much fun, all the way through.  We are thrilled to share it as a preview. It will be available for purchase, here, in a few weeks.Meanwhile, sit back, kick back and enjoy!

Story

Collateral Damage is a plaintive, pathos-filled ballad about living with someone with PTSD, who has been changed by war, and is no longer the person you remember.  Yet, he is still 'family' and while you try to make the best of it, the toll it takes on your psyche, pride and quality of life is deafening.

It is written from personal experience and meant to shed light on the question "Why doesn't she just leave?" which is never easy to answer.

Lyrics

Collateral Damage

Tapia Corel -2009

People often wonder, why  I put up  with your flak

Your drinkin’and your meanness, when you fall into vat

Of misery and loneliness, a cast-off from the war

I recall another time when life held so much more

And you used to be  good,  used to be so kind

When others were in need of help, you weren’t hard to find

And you could hold your shoulders wide.  Face into the wind|

But most of all: You used to be my friend

When we first walked together, and charted our new path

We took a vow for better, and laughter that would last

And with each child we cherished, and welcomed to our world

Your manly pride beamed from inside, for our boy and girl

When you used to be good, used to be so kind

When others were in need of help,  you weren’t hard to find

And you could give your family dreams, that seemed to have no end

But most of all: You used to be our friend

Tonight you’re lost in dreams of what might have been

If you woulda, coulda, shoulda, found the time

To face your demons squarely, instead of hiding in|

Four quarts of beer, and countless shots of Early Times

And late at night I wonder, how I got into this mess

A quagmire of a marriage, filled with loneliness

My friends all see a siphon, who’s bound to bleed me dry

Who sucks me dry of joy and pride, pretending that he  tries,

But he used to be good, used to be so kind

When others were in need of help, He wasn’t hard to find

And he could give his family dreams, that seemed to have no end

But most of all,

He used to be our friend

Yeah, most of all,

He used to be our friend

Justin Hayward

Story

Nights In White Satin, was originally recorded by The Moody Blues in 1967. The original arrangement involves a rich orchestra supporting a pure, simple and basic love song, written by Justin Hayward.

One night, while we were playing songs just for the fun it, we discovered how strong this song was, and how it worked beautifully with our two voices and guitars. We began playing it out at Open Mics, Song Circles and eventually our own shows. It was so well received, with the audience joining in the chorus, we decided to record it as close to our first arrangement as possible.

"Nights" will be included in our upcoming CD (yet to be named) for release in the late spring/early summer. Hope you enjoy it!

Lyrics

Nights In White Satin (The Night)

By The Moody Blues

Nights in white satin, never reaching the end,
Letters I've written, never meaning to send.
Beauty I'd always missed, with these eyes before,
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore

'Cause I love you, yes I love you, oh how I love you

Gazing at people, some hand in hand,
Just what I'm going through, they can't understand
Some try to tell me, thoughts they cannot defend,
Just what you want to be, you will be in the end

And I love you, yes I love you,
Oh how I love you, oh how I love you

Nights in white satin, never reaching the end,
Letters I've written, never meaning to send
Beauty I'd always missed, with these eyes before,
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore

'Cause I love you, yes I love you
Oh how I love you, oh how I love you
'Cause I love you, yes I love you,
Oh how I love you, oh how I love you
